I guarantee that pilot did not do a calculation from the new point at which he was beginning the takeoff. He lied and took a chance because he was embarrassed and flustered and just wanted the problem and mistake to disappear. Pilots are garbage

I love listening to the radio talk.

I got chewed out by the Chief Pilot of my flight school after I ignored tower to extend my up wind leg to come in behind a plane entering downwind direct. I cut him off. Boy did I get chewed out. And received additional instruction on circuit procedures! Thankfully I did not get the phone number but I learned my lesson! Radio Comms are super critical and you NEED to be VERY CLEAR and be a very good listener! Whew!

There is absolutely NO EXCUSE for poor airmanship. This is no surprise, considering Delta's pilot hiring practices, as of late. Completely preventable.

Possibly, a windshear alert was received by the predictive windshear system. Our operations specifications require us to go-around in that instance. Runway 26L at Vegas is notorious for last second windshear and turbulence due to a berm that the threshold was built on, coupled with the fact that they tend to land this runway in some significant crosswinds. The Vegas thermals and mechanical turbulence add to the fun. If the PWS notified of windshear ahead, you may not be able to tell from watching the aircraft.
